Beginning Foundation Paper Piecing - SNS
Learn the basics of foundation paper piecing in this class designed for beginners, or for those looking to refresh their FPP skills.
Foundation paper piecing allows you to create accurate patchwork blocks quickly and easily. Even if you have never made a piece of patchwork before, you can make wonderful blocks the first time you try machine paper piecing!
In class you will make two or three 3x3” heart blocks. Use fabric from your stash and make it scrappy, or yardage requirements will be provided if you prefer a color coordinated project. The required class booklet provides instructions for a 12" x 12" wall hanging or table topper. You are encouraged to complete that project after class to reinforce the skills learned in class.
Supply List
- Sewing machine in good working order (don’t forget your cord and foot pedal)!
- Neutral colored thread and fully wound bobbin (thread won’t show on the front of your project).
- 1/4 yard light fabric for background
- 1/4 yard total of assorted fabrics for hearts (small prints, solids, or blenders work best)
- 6” Add a Quarter Ruler (required)
- Quilting pins
- Picture postcard
- Fabric glue stick (1/4” round is best)
- Rotary cutter (45 mm)
- Small cutting mat (12” x 18”)
- 3”x 12” quilting ruler (or similar)
- Open toe presser foot (Janome/Elna F2 foot)
- 90/14 machine needle (sharp or topstitch type)
- Optional: small iron and pressing mat or seam roller
- Seam ripper
- Fabric marking pen (disappearing or erasable)
Important Notes:
- Allow us to carry your machine in from the car to the store for class!
- You will receive a discount on class supplies purchased at Sew ‘n Save.
- Purchase all supplies prior to the start of class. The project will take the full class time.
- There is homework prior to class!
- Arrive any time after 11:30 am so that you are set up and ready to go when class starts at noon.
